Author Topic: Child Board Alternatives  (Read 1725 times)

As Groovy Gamers is growing, we are beginning to offer some alternatives to child boards.

Use PM Labels Instead of Private Fora

Instead of using private fora, you can use PM labels to organize your PMs by topic. PM labels work somewhat like folders for e-mail. However, unlike e-mail folders, you can apply multiple labels to  a single PM, so you can have the same PM appear along with multiple groups of PMs.

For example, if you wanted to have a single message grouped with your GM notes and your PMs for a particular game, you could apply a label to the PM called "GM Notes" and a label that uses the game name.

Note: This feature may not work with all board themes.

To create a PM label:

1. On the Groovy Gamers menu bar, click My Messages.
2. On the Personal Messages page, click Manage Labels.
3. Under Add New Label in the Label Name field , enter the label name you want. Examples might be a game name, a system name, or "GM Notes."
4. Click Add New Label.

To apply a label to your PMs:

1. Click Inbox (or Outbox).
2. Add labels to a message one of two ways:
      a) Scroll down to a message, and select the label you want in the Label Message list.
      b) Select the check box associated with one or more messages. Select a label in the Label Selected list.
Note: You can apply more than one label to the same message.
3. In the Labels list, click the label name. Only personal messages with that label appear in the list.

31 pages, that's 4-500 messages huh? Yea, might be an idea.  Wink

By the way is this board any like GG1 was in that if we keep too many private messages then it may slow down the entire board or anything?

I don't remember that being a problem on the old forum.

Really? Hm, I seem to recall someone sending around messages telling us to delete our PMs or they'd slow down the entire board.. or was that another board? Okay, that does it, I'm getting senile...

Yep, definite senility. Or maybe Alzheimers? Wow that's like 50 years too early.  Crazy

So anything else that can slow down the forum by the way? Beacuse logging in has been a total €£$@% lately, the main forum loads just fine, then I open up a few forums and can usually go and get me something to eat while it loads, and I'm on a fairly high-speed line...

I think it's your PMs, Sacremas. I think you should delete them all and see what happens.  Spittake
