(If Spider Jerusalem said it, it must be right.  Wink)

*Adds Handheld Bowel Disruptor to list of Common Weapons... well among crazy gonzo journalists at least.*

Your ground speed should be 25 MPH and your Telekinesis can only do damage by tossing people, with the damage probably varying greatly each time of course. I came to realize while looking over my own rules that technically someone can instantly start mind controlling a Hostile Datamind character with a single skill check at 5 DC less than breaking them when they're already at 'Helpful' stage. Fortunately you're still getting will saves at that point, including circumstance bonuses for avoiding doing stuff that's clearly against your character's wishes. Also the mind control is still very overt until the subject is broken entirely, meaning that up until that point it's going to be pretty obvious as to who's been affected. Now Teeps with the Mind Control power on the other hand, they don't have that problem, so even if it's just PL 6 you're going to be glad before this is over you got that +7 Will save.

Also note what I said above (*looks up...* well, recently at least) that a commlink with extra subjects is only going to work if the entire team also have commlinks with extra subjects - although I'll allow you to access those with Datalink without a recipient commlink or radio hearing of their own -  that or an Operator that your Commlink leads directly to who can then patch you on to whoever else with Datamind you want to talk to. Also you're getting at least 5 equipment points each for free to spend on group-related stuff, such as commlinks, so you could spend that instead... or invest your part in the group's headquarters if you're going to get one, or get yourself a nice vehicle if there's some points left.

Otherwise you're good, so just post Kais up whenever.

To be fair, TYCorp probably only views Synthia and M.A.X. as a blip, a failed experiment to terminate if convenient, rather than a true enemy.  Masamichi Hideo, OTOH, views them as an embarrassment that cost him a lot of prestige and must be eliminated to salve his own ego.

Which of course brings up the question of how far up the ladder is Hideo? Minor 'corpsman' struggling to make the deadlines, or up and coming rising star expected to be numbered among the Daimyos (regional directors) within a couple of years? How much resources could he bring to bear against you if you were on the other side of the world? How about if he found out Synthia and M.A.X. could be found in the same city he was currently that TYCorp had plenty of holdings and personnel in, would he be able to turn that power towards them or would he still most likely be restricted to his personal projects like M.A.X.?

Well I was thinking of him more in a typical Shadowrunner type scenario where he's basically a criminal already not anything even remotely official like a mercenary.  That being said he would need a real reason to join up with this crew if they're being hounded by so many megacorps....I suppose building up an awesome rep wouldn't be good enough since if the team fails he'd be a pariah in the shadow community....

He could have a vested interest in clearing the names of the people involved....maybe a sibling or loved one got framed as well but hunted down and killed and he's looking for the truth about what happened?

Also I was sort of intending for him to fight through his drones basically so having him sit a mile away most of the time meshes with how I saw him handling combat anyway.

The sibling or friend or general revenge scenario would be a decent reason yes. How about if rather them being dead though it's one of the other PCs? I'm not sure if that would actually work with any of the current PCs though and would need another player's agreement to that (and it can't be Synthia or Christina either obviously given that they're both clones... although maybe Subject 005, Christina's 'parent' or donor was someone he knew). As for commanding his drones a mile away, yea that could work, although you're going to have problems the instant a decent hacker shows up given that he can steal control of your drones, you can get it back sure but that could swiftly occupy you and making you unable to perform Operator duties if called upon.

Also as a note unlike Shadowrun there's actually no genuine governments left aside from Megacorps and their security personnel, and as such the law is pretty much what they say it is for the most part even though many of the old world's laws are still kept up in theory and given lip service to at least, making the criminals often the anti-corporation guys, putting such a character already within the team's camp... although likely not to such an extreme point as the Z-Team.

That last option was kinda what I was going for, although I might not have gotten it across as precisely as I could have I suppose due to the fact I left it somewhat open-ended and vague to make it easier to adjust with the ever-shifting group backstory. I figured they either broke him out specifically (dunno why they would, first hand intel of Novatech maybe?) or happened to be there for a mission when a riot/explosion gave him the opportunity to escape, needing allies as going solo in this world would be suicide he joined up.

That's what I figured at the end of my rambling (sorry, just how I think and in case I come to the wrong conclusions I post my entire thought-process just as well). I think the second option will work best, although the first could be a good reason as to why the group would keep Noah on once Christina dug up his entire personal background (within the first five seconds of seeing his face that is if she was within a mile of a net access point, unless he's had extensive facial reconstruction/alteration done, and even then she'd probably find it after a bit longer, you need a lot more than basically 'disgruntled employee' for them to enact the kind of security protocols on the info that would even slow her down). Maybe the biomatrix implant was an experimental process that ended up killing everyone they tried to put it into later, and Novatech wanted to find out why that was and so kept Noah on ice at some research lab for study to figure out what made him compatible and not the others, a research lab the team later raided only to find Noah as well when going through the more important research they were sent to steal.

rgordona;

Only note is that 'Shadowy X' would probably be a DemiGod level guy, if you do the math a God level character is a PL 25+ character (+60 mod minimum to qualify, so at the very least Int 70/IQ 700+ and 30 skill ranks)... there's a very good reason why I said these guys probably don't exist yet. Gods, Demi or otherwise in this world isn't just a geeky term of respect from fellow hackers, it's actually as close to divinity as you can come, a DemiGod can take over everything computerized (so, uh, everything, from cars to homes, combat cyborgs to corporate execs with mental implants, and automated defences to battlemechs and orbital mass drivers and death rays) in almost an entire megacity at once and manipulate MegaCorporations around and are such incredibly powerful people that none have been positively identified (and in fact there's no clear evidence even a DemiGod actually exist), and a God level hacker could likely do the same to the entire world, or even the entire solar system at once or at least everything he could connect to somehow... Think SKYNET, with all the implications that entails. Just wanted to make that clear... otherwise carry on, you're on a good roll here.

EDIT: The above God-level calcs is with the assumption that no obscure rule or ability that I've overlooked doesn't allow you to ignore PL limits when it comes to either skills or intelligence mods without GM permission, I found a few that could work with GM permission but if I use it it's going to be 'dayfly' Gods, burning out pretty quickly. If there is some other options that I'm overlooking, please do point them out to me.

Hideo was an up and coming rising star expected to be numbered among the Daimyo.  The fallout of the M.A.X. project, however, put his career on hold.  He's still in a position to earn the good graces of the higher ups and advance after a few years of good work, but he hopes to accelerate that by taking out (or recovering) Synthia and M.A.X.

Well I might as well ask then, how do I design my drones to defend against a hacker?  Is it a Will save or something similar?  I'm not saying I'm going to build them to be impossible to hack, that would take the fun out of it, but I can at least make sure they and I have a fighting chance of retaining control throughout a fight.

Also since I'm asking questions, is there any other player out there who would mind being connected to my drone operator?  I'm thinking siblings would work best but I can roll with just about anything.

Immunity 5 (Hacking), though I'd really rather not see that one show up too often, hacking is basically the be-all end-all of cyberpunk generally and if you're a android or mentally enhanced cyborg or some other mechanical computer-based character you should be hackable 99 % of the time, it's just an integral part of the setting. Beyond that while changing their allegiance through the Computers skill and Datalink (note that most Datalinks are going to be limited to 1 or 2 ranks when it comes to NPCs, with only exceptional characters having access to Datalink 3) works exactly the same way as it does when hacking a Datamind character (see Houserules) like the Datamind characters someone with a Wisdom score gets a will save to avoid going against their 'core programming' whatever that may be. If they don't have a Wisdom score however they'll automatically do whatever the hacker tells them to. However you can also hack your own droids, and if you got a communications link or the like to them the range is bumped up to 'same planet'.

How's it going with that backstory? As I said if I don't have it and a suggestion as to how to tie your character to the others I cannot include you when the game officially starts tomorrow, you'll have to join in later. Midnight this goes for you too.

Cyclone; Okay... but I repeat, what resources can Hideo reasonably bring to bear when going after Synthia and M.A.X., just his personal fortune and any favors he can bring in, the regional TYCorp resources in the area Synthia and M.A.X. is expected to be, or the full TYCorp corporate resources (within reason)?

Mostly the first.  His personal fortune and favors he can call in, but that's more than it sounds because he has a lot of favors he can call in.  He has no official mandate to grab Synthia and M.A.X.  Note that TYCorp just wants them out of the way, having written the whole project off as a failure, Hideo wants Synthia dead and M.A.X. recovered, the former as revenge, the latter to salvage the project.

I have a question on communition. Since commlinks obviously go off of the radio wavelength, how does Datalink or Datamind communicate their queries to the internet? (since that's how I assume they work) Wouldn't they have to do so over RF waves? Is there some way Kais can tap into that to use his commlink to talk to people without them, but with Datamind?

Cyclone;

Okay, In that case can you give me a guesstimate of Hideo's Wealth score so that I know what I have to work with? Assume most Damiyos and regional managers in general to be in the +40-55 range, with CEOs being in the 55-60 range.

VeiledMalice;

Hm, interesting question. Datalink is a direct carrier signal attempting to hacking into any sort of receptors the targeted computer may have. It should probably just have been houseruled to LOS only, but in that case one rank would be enough for everyone obviously, so I just went with limiting the rank to 3 (1 mile), both for realism's sake and due to the fact that a Datalink 9 character would be, well, a god obviously in this world, able to hack directly into any computerized system in a setting where everything is computerized. Especially include the RAW Machine Control. Yeesh. Datamind on the other hand is a one mile wireless modem more or less, which when transmitting tries to detect any local networks and transmit it via that if the targeted modem (be it an actual modem or another Datamind character) isn't within the 1 mile operational range. Beyond that I have no idea how it works, sorry, I have to ask my cousin to come hook up my wireless internet once a year when it crashes. Tongue But I guess so. Technically Datalink gives Communication 3 (Mental/Computers) more or less, so I guess a commlink system could just patch directly into that somehow. I really have no idea but I'm going to say... yes, in this case don't buy your Commlink as Super Senses (communications link) but as the actual Communication power, max rank 9.

Alright, all changed up. My only alterations were those to equipment and communication, and you said you were good with anything else, so I've gone and placed him in the character section. I will be posting his actual backstory (with complete revisions) soon.

With that knowledge, he'd have about +40.  In terms of pure money, he's matched with the low end of the regional managers and Daimyos, but due to the Synthia/M.A.X. mess, he's in disgrace with the company, which means he has less direct authority over company assets than one might think, gaining most of his influence through the aforementioned personal favors.

Actually, I think you might be a little off on the estimates of wealth. +31 is filthy rich - Warren Buffet or Steve Jobs rich. Each +5 increase thereafter, as it happens in M&M, is an exponential increase. So billions becomes trillions becomes quadrillions becomes quintillions becomes sextillions with that kind of scale. A +55 is up in the "more money than God - literally" range. You might want to prune your estimates back a bit to keep it in the realm of believability. The corporations have the big bucks, not the individuals. They're stupidly rich, yeah, but the CEO still has to answer to the Board, which is usually just as blinged out.

I was using Paragons (by Kenson) as reference when figuring out wealth scores, where for example the Pact have on average a +40 wealth score... individually. Augustus Silber, leader of the Silber Agency also has "+40 or more" wealth, and these are meant to be present day people in a relatively realistic setting, all of whom maintain relatively low-key appearances (okay, 'relative' may indeed in this case be a... relative term). This is in a near future where these perhaps two-three dozen people actually own the solar system... The corporation itself actually has more money than god, so much so that I'm not going to bother figuring it out but put it at +X for each of the Seven. Lesser corporations are generally in the +40 or less value in total, but the board members each have enough money to just buy the company on their own time, and often do so in fact to later sell it to the megacorp they work for at a loss purely for prestige.

However you do raise an interesting point as to what those numbers actually mean in monetary values? One of the reasons why I really don't like the Wealth system, it just gets too abstract so that the numbers in the end doesn't mean anything, and unlike abstract numbers like your attack bonus representing the combined combat training that person has had all his life we already know that money have specific numbers... often numbers so high they go over most people's head if you go past an average household's wealth but still. I know anything else would be an absolute book keeping nightmare but hey if Star Wars can pull it off...

I've learned to treat anything Kenson writes with more than a little suspicion. Many of his revisions seem to be weak arguements at best. Plus, you have to remember that those are the bonuses, not the whole number. One still has to factor in the d20 roll. Anyway, if you want to have the guys rolling with enough money to buy planets, it's no skin off my nose.

Ah, duh, I forgot to count in the inflation as well... Tongue

But yes, they can buy planets. Well not inside our solar system of course, every piece of land and most of the space surrounding it has been divided up by the square inch (and that's a lot of square inches!) by the MegaCorps themselves, but rights to planets outside our solar system is often traded between individual persons, usually with the thought that when humanity reaches that far it'll be their family who owns the rights to the planet. Let's just hope they're not already inhabited eh? Then again in that case they could start claiming rent perhaps...

Re: Wealth levels - I guess it depends whether we are talking about personal wealth or the level of wealth they can bring to bear. The CEO of a Mega Corps may actually have to stretch himself a little to buy a whole planet, but he controls a corporation which could do it easily.

Given there are only 7 major companies left, and technology and wealth have increased since present day, a level of wealth 10^6 more than Warren Buffet doesn't sound unreasonable. Even 100 times more wealth for a regional director doesn't sound too bad - especially if we are talking wealth they can bring to bear rather than personal wealth.

Well no, his legs are still protected just fine... but his vital organs and head probably isn't, and they're the ones most attackers are going to focus on. Your legs have an inherent Hardness from being built of metal (probably a titanium-like alloy) making them pretty hard to hurt regardless, but you yourself isn't. I don't know, if you want genuine overall protection I'd suggest you go for either an hard to lose device 1 armor or either a Weak Point if the cybernetics cover substantial parts of your vital organs or a sustained duration on your Protection to simulate using your metal legs to protect the parts of you that isn't metal.

Well, how about I flaw part of the protection to not work if he's unable to use his legs? like Protection 10 (Flaws: Limited [5 ranks] [When unable to use legs to block attacks])

As for the backstory for my character, I'm at college at the moment, so I don't have the brainstorming I did on me, but maybe he was caught while on assignment and kicked out of the cozy corporate world, and eventually found his way to the team, possible through the online gathering of people that everyone was talking about?  Huh
Or possibly, maybe he found out his own company was setting up to kill him off because he was gettting to know too much, and they were going to bring in someone with better cybernetics and such (would make a fun villain option Wink )
