-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Quiet down over there!" Karl hisses at Elsie.
"Do you want to draw more of the foul spawn down on us. If you're going to do something do it quick and be done with it."
Wiping the blood off his sabre, he sheathes it in favour of his dagger. Gripping a makeshift torch in one hand, Karl makes ready to climb up to the hayloft as quietly as possible.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hugo wondered whether trying to get out of the room was such a good idea. Breaking the door down wold be stupid, and would just bring the staff and that roadwarden in. Maybe if he could work around the lock, maybe cutting through the wood around it. getting out his hatchet Hugo decided that it would be of little us in his endeavour, so he went over to where the dwarf lay unconsious and started rumaging through his pack looking for a spike of some sort, preferably with a handle. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Faldit picks up the gore-covered sword and wipes some of the filth off with straw. The words: In vi Sigmaris est vis meam are revealed, although they mean nothing to anyone who does not speak the classical language of scholars. His extensive heraldry classes, which he was forced to take while still a quarterling back in The Moot, do reveal that the sword is embossed with the coat of arms of Stirland, however.
Faldit takes a look at Elsie's wounds, and although he has little in the way of medical supplies tries to bandage them as best he can in the darkness of the stables. (Test Passed 2 wounds gained).
Feeling some small relief, the still stew-covered woman returns his weaponry, at least that which he hadn't already filched back himself. Faldit settles his quarrel of bolts on his hip and cocks his crossbow, bracing the cumbersome weapon with his foot.
Karl leads the brown bay back into its stable and waits impatiently for the two to finish. By the time they are done he has managed to light a small wall brazier but its oil is low and it constantly threatens to go out. With the others' crossbows at the ready, he ascends the ladder.
Seconds pass quietly, the two wait patiently. Karl releases a piercing shriek and slips three rungs down the ladder in his haste to get away from the hayloft.

Minutes pass as Hugo chips away at the doorlock. It isn't anything a master thief would be proud of but its sensible and to the purpose. Hugo's father would be proud.
More minutes pass and as he works Hugo is sure he can hear a sort of 'throbbing' noise passing through the building. After a while it stops, perhaps as the wind changes.
Eventually Hugo prizes the door lock out, satisfied with his work he grins and promptly drops the heavy metal mechansim on his foot. It bounces of with a loud clunk that goes through the silent inn.

"I swear... many more nights like this, and i'll be a raving madman."
Waiting a minute for his pulse to slow and his breathing to calm, Karl contemplates what he saw... the grisly remains of a corpse in the hayloft.
"The stableboy is there.... Or what remains of him at least. Poor bugger must've been eaten before we arrived."
He looks around thoughtfully for a minute.

Hugo pops his head out of the door and glances around.
The corridor is quiet although the humming sound, now he is outside, has returned. It is less of a sound and more of a tremble in the foundations of the building.
To Hugo's immediate right there is a door. Having been this way already he knows that as he follows the corridor around to the left there are three doors on the right hand side (the left hand side is the outer wall) before he turns right and gets to the stairs down.
There seems to be no one about. He turns to find the Elf and the Dwarf still sleeping like the dead. Back to top FireOfRetribution Warhammer Affectionado

Hugo creeps along the corridors of the inn as best as his forest life has trained him. Turning corners in the dark, starting at shadows as he holds his hatchet out in front of him, he becomes aware of cold sweat trickling down his back.
Only a few nights, when the noises from the forest gloom got too near, did he feel this scared. And then he always had his father with him. He is not used to this.
Then something he is used to comes to his aid. As he emerges into the bar room of the inn, where the humming becomes much louder, his sharp night vision picks out a body in the gloom. A person standing in the dark, just byond the door, lying in wait - for him. Back to top Kanor Professional

"Boo!" Says the bug-eyed man who was mopping the bar earlier. His pallid white face emerges from the darkness.
When he sees Hugo jump in fright he gives an idiot giggle, a line of drool escaping from his slack jaw.
He grins and lunges at Hugo, his bright steel blade streaks through the darkness, seeking Hugo's soft gut.

The man screams as the hatchet cuts deeply through his thin cotton rags. Hugo surprises himself, his woodcutter's strength and trusty hatchet making a horrible gaping wound in his assailant's flesh. He clearly hears the bone break like a dry branch. The man screams and garbles words at Hugo but he doesn't understand him. He is speaking some strange and feral other tongue.
Given the damage he's done - the man's left hand hangs limp and tattered- Hugo is surprised when he looks down to find his own defences have been breached. A simple but effective short sword is imbedded in his leg, near the crotch. The man leers through his pain and twist-draws the weapon, drawing flesh, blood and a scream from Hugo. The drooling man turns from the door pushing against it with the elbow of his destroyed hand and snarling.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Alycorn creeps down the stairs of the Hooded Man, unknowingly following the tracks of Hugo, just a few minutes ahead of him. The Elf has an arrow notched as he stares into the shadows with his cat-eyes, unused to being indoors, feeling sick, woozy and out of place.
He pushes open the door of the bar room to be greeted by a slick pool of blood, black in the darkness, which he only just avoids slipping on.
Spatter is all over the place, the door jam, the bar, several tables laying around, some overturned, even the stairs have been splashed, he notices as he turns, although no body is evident.
The outside door is banging in the storm, rain blowing in and bringing with it an icy cold wind. The noise is beginning to grate on the Elf's fevered brain. That and the humming coming from the floor... * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * ** * * * * * *
Outside Elsie pads from shadow to shadow, training her bow on the swinging door before her. Karl follows behind, less sure but with his sabre ready.
Hugo is still panting for breath and recovering his wits in the stable although he watches from the door.
Faldit is keeping quiet and trying not to be noticed.
"It's..." says Elsie before her words - and every other sound - the banging door, the howling wind, the splashing rain and the cries of the horses are drowned by a sound of nothingness. For a split second the air itself is riven by an ear-boiling silence, a savage pink light beams through the windows of the inn, seeming to even trickle through the very mortar of the walls.
The group turn their heads away and bury faces under arms and shields to avoid the glare.
Sounds returns with a rush, somehow louder than before. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * ** * * * * * * In the inn Alycorn drops to his knees in agony, the light too much for his senses. Back to top Grimmbear Virtuoso

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The slight one is murmuring and shaking his head, he seems shocked more than anything but, miraculously, has managed to keep hold of his bow, a green-fletched arrow is still half notched.
The blood in which the Elf is kneeling seems to have come from someone else and as the burly woodsman Hugo follows a trail of dark slaps and slops around the bar he sees the body of the bug-eyed man.
He appears to be dead, lying spread-eagled on the slatted floor, his blood pooling unusually in a thin line in the wood.
An eerie bass drone is rumbling through the building and appears to emenate from beneath your feet, inducing headaches all around. Hugo feels especially bad and has to fight his heaving stomach. Back to top FireOfRetribution Warhammer Affectionado

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Where's the dwarf?" Karl asks as he cautiously looks around the taproom.
The flickering lights of the storm and wind and darkness with the strange reverberating sounds created an eerie feeling of unease amongst the man from Stirland.

Damn dwarf.... having us make a foolish choice!
...Still.... his axe would be more than welcome.... and another body might save my skin
Karl pondered Elsies words for a moment before responding.
"We should probably quickly make sure the dwarf is not carried off and fed to the wolves.... on a night such as this I would not see that as odd. " Back to top Colonel Blood Making PCs Cry Since 1989

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A horrible yawing sound reverberates through the building, like a ship straining against the wind, and the hum that everyone has by now gotten used to suddenly stops, causing a peculiar ringing in the ears.
The bug-eyed man, until now quite still, suddenly begins to jerk and thrash around.
Hugo, who is quite near inspecting his handiwork, lets out a shriek until he realises it is the ground immediately beneath the man which is moving him around.
Everything else loose in the hooded Man is moving about also, plates smash as the fall from shelves, cupboards wobble as if in a strong wind, a picture falls from its hanging.
The three humans and their burbling elven companion stand quite steady on the stone floor. Back to top Malochite Professional

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (As Grimm seems to not be around recently I'm NPCing him.)
The Elf gazes at Elsie slack jawed before toppling over gently in the pool of blood and laying still. Faldit rushes to help his new friend.
Seeing that they might be without the help of an experienced warrior for some time Karl takes the initiative and begins to rummage around behind the bar. He sees a small bowl on a shelf. It contains small traces of a tobacco like substance and smells funny.
He slips into the kitchen, sword at the ready, followed by Elsie. The kitchen has obviously been designed, or redesigned, for a halfling to use. Small steps lead up to the cooking area and a foot ladder on casters lies redundant in the corner. Other than that it is perfectly normal. It is well stocked with pungent cheeses and bunches of spicy sausages hang from the rafters. A fire still burns in the hearth.
Elsie sees the bucket and mop which the bug-eyed man was using when the group first entered the inn. It is full of bloody water, naturally.
As the two peer in they are startled by another scream from below their feet. They jump visibly and Elsie nearly fires her crossbow into her foot. They both scowl at each other before hearing something which unsettles them even more.
It is Hugo calling that he has found a trapdoor. The body of the bug-eyed man was resting over it, whether he was trying to hide it in his death throes, or trying to get insde you will never know. Back to top Malochite Professional

Placing his hands on the bug-eyed man Hugo rolls him of the trapdoor, grimacing as he does. 'I think that we should go down there, I'm no warrior but neither am I a coward. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Stone stairs descend into the semi-darkness beneath The Hooded Man but no immediate threat is visible and the noises which lead you to investigate have subsided. Elsie pokes her crossbow through but sees nothing worth shooting. Only barrels of beer and bottles of wines and spirits. Some of it quite good too, if Karl is any judge, which he is.
Stepping further down, Elsie, closely followed by Hugo and Karl prepare to investigate the gloomy room. It's gloomy but not quite dark.
Then Hugo’s night trained eyes spot the source of the light. A faint pink glow eminates from the floor behind a pulled up stone slab. Some sort of trick door? There is a thick red-black blood stain leading towards the hole.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A strange groaning-farting sound echoes its way up from the hole in the floor. It would be laughable if it didn't coincide with a change in air pressure which makes everyone's ears pop and the sudden presence of a strange metallic taint in the air.
You hear a jingle like that of a church finger bell. Then another. Then a sick wet ripping sound. Then screams.
"Aaaaah! Aaah!" A high pitched whine rattles its way towards the foursome as, springing from the hole with the speed of a much lighter man, Otto the landlord makes his appearance.
He appears completely deranged with fear and tears at his own eyes, perhaps in an effort to rid himself of a recent vision. A large cleaver hangs at his belt although he appears in no hurry to use it as he rushes heedless across the room and barrels towards Faldit, stood at the foot of the cellar steps.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The fat mutant needs no second telling. He bounds up the stairs, cleaver in hand, as fast as one of the Stirweiler dogs you ran from earlier that day. Gods was it only twelve hours ago?
Elsie advances to the hole and peers inside, followed by Hugo, Karl and Faldit in that order. She can make nothing out from her position aside from the sounds of violence, clashing steel, grunts and screams - and an appaling giggling which sends shivers down the spine.
Elsie and Hugo climb into the hole, crossbow and hatchet raised, to be greeted by a site which freezes the senses.
Two men - one is clearly Hans the roadwarden, the other wears a cowl and you do not recognise him - are fighting a creature from a nightmare.
It glows a sickly pink and has hundreds of silver bells stitched into its skin which tingle and jingle as it moves. It giggles constantly, seeming to find the whole scene most amusing. It's claws seem to be made of metal and it has no trouble parrying the expert thrusts of Hans and the clumsy swinging of the other man's blade.
A woman, clearly a Stirland native, sits cross legged on the floor, screaming fit for the asylum. She is bound and placed next to several bodies, one a halfling. Two more bodies leak their life's blood onto the floor in the middle of a pink pentagram. They lay before a statue which hurts the eyes to look at.
"Help us!" shouts Hans, finally noticing the onlookers. "Help us or it will finish us and come after you!" Back to top FireOfRetribution Warhammer Affectionado

Finding everything correct to the best of his limited ability, he decended the stairs into a level of madness and terror unthinkable even in the context of the horrors of this night of nights.
Sigmar in Heaven save me from this evil!
Mouth aghast at the terrible sight, the macabre evidence of sacrifice and horrible ritual, and the unreal creature spawned from the depths of the the nightmare sof the most depraved madman, Karl could do little for a few seconds other than stare.
Suddenly shaking his head, mumbling prayers to any deity that he thought might listen to his supplications, Karl took a tentative step forward. Snarling at the hated roadwarden, agent of evil and corruption, he made instead for the prostrate bodies obviously meant for further sacrifice, meaning to drag a few quickly away from the ceremonial pentagram.
Screw the corrupt bastard... Maybe some good people can be saved this night.

The Giggler 53 Faldit 52 Karl 43 Hans 43 Hugo 32 Hooded Man 32 Elsie 29
Round 1 The giggling creature barely notices a clear foot of Imperial steel whiz past its malformed head and rakes its inches long claws at Hans as he desperately tries to scrabble out of the way. He fails and his clumsy turn presents his back which is presently ripped open by the silver talons. Blood gouts across the room and he drops immediately. (OOC: wasn't expecting that.) The Giggler turns its attentions to the hooded man but he manages to leap back, despite the shock he must feel at his companion's demise.
Faldit simply stands and stares at the scene of grotesque violence in front of him, a ribbon of blood dripping down the side of his face.
Karl runs towards the screaming woman and despite her manic protestations tries to drag her up the stairs and out of harms way. She doesn't make it easy and he barely moves her a couple of yards. Still, maybe it will be enough.
Hugo has other things on his mind and rushes at the beast, his hatchet swinging. Sadly his aim is well wide, doing nothing more than distract the beast.
The hooded man screams at the top of his lungs and lunges at the creature, trying to use the sudden appearance of the woodsman to his advantage. He pinks the thing with his sabre, drawing a gash across its distended belly. The thing giggles all the more as purple maggots gush from the wound onto the floor. It picks one out and eats it.
lsie swears and struggles to reload her bow, she braces it on the floor and pumps the lever, hoping the combatants last long enough to give her time.
Round2 Still giggling the thing reaches out and slices across the chest of the man who wounded it, its hand shaped like a cleaver. The razor claws cut his clothes and flesh to ribbons but he still stands, although his movements seem slowed. Then the Giggler, its sick silver bells tingling, reaches out an arm and screeches strange words whose black unholy syllables make everyone present feel sick. Purple and pink flames rise from its outstretched palm before shooting across the room.
Perversely, it doesn't send them after anyone who has moved against it but instead to poor Karl, engaged in his mission of mercy. They hit him in the back with the impact of a fist and cause him to stagger and drop the woman. (W3 Stunned one round.)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Moving as quickly as had been possible across the dank macabre scene that was the apparent sacrifical chamber, Karl grabbed the screaching woman by the scruff of her neck and attempted to hustle her out of harms way. Apparently nowhere near her right mind however, she made no move to help herself, and continued only to scream obscenities and gibberish... much to Karl's discontent.
Stupid bitch! Save yourself already!!
Redeoubling his efforts to throw her towards the opening to the cellar, Karl did not even see the accumulating energy that blasted him square in the back... all he knew was that he was suddenly falling, all sensation removed from his body. He didn't feel pain... he didn't feel anything at all. And despite his best efforts..... Karl found that he couldn't volentarily move a muscle through the spasms wracking his wiry frame.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- There is a tiny clicking sound, repeated as the catches on both Faldit's and Elsie's crossbows are released.
"Uh oh..." Says the daemonic nightmare, its big eyes rolling round to look. It would be comical if everyone wasn't so petrified.
Faldit's aim is true and the tempered bolt finds its home in the sagging chest of the creature. Its bells tinkle with the force of the shot. The creature shrugs off the wound, pulling out the bolt with a vile 'schlupping' sound. It tosses it into a corner and giggles, a small cough is attached this time, however.
Hugo uses the confusion to aim a righteous strike against his daemonic foe but again his cleaver swings clear and his hooded 'friend' appears in no position to press the advantage.
Elsie's bolt suddenly appears in the creature's thigh, blossoming like a metal reed. It takes off the creature's leg halfway up its femur, the limb flies along the floor trailing purple-black gore and maggots before coming to rest in the corner where a sconse containing a large chest rests.
The Giggler watches its progress dazedly, standing impossibly balanced on its remaining leg, before toppling to the floor leaking vital fluids.
The room goes eerily quiet as everyone stands still as the statue which dominates it. Back to top Mr. President Professional

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Elsie starts to fumble another bolt into her weapon and Karl shakes his head to clear the effects of the blast. His coat is still smouldering slightly and he can see stars floating in front of his vision.
The hooded man looks around himself, his face still in darkness. Seeing his erstwhile enemies still alive and his one companion leaking his life's blood onto the floor he runs for the exit, hopping over Karl, and running up the stairs.
"Hur hur hur he he ha har!" A horrible creeping laugh resounds through the room, shaking teeth and sending shivers up your spines. It is coming from the statue whose jaw seems to have animated as it laughs.
The pink pentagram in which Hans' corpse still lies glows briefly, the powder from which it is drawn ignites like blackpowder, casting shadows around the room from its blue flames, it sets a small fire in the clothes of Hans' corpse which lays half across it.
The two body parts of the giggler's corpse immolate, casting another flaring blue flame across the room and as suddenly as it dies away there are two of them - two gigglers - one in the corner of the room where the leg lay, the other stood right where its predecessor fell.
They clash their clawed hands together, sparks flying. They giggle in unison. Back to top Mr. President Professional

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Damn, Damn Damn!!!" Karl says through gritted teeth as feeling returned to his limbs... along with the sensation of pain.
Pushing himself up by his palms to a standing position, he is just in time to see the formation of two new foes from the first. Unearthly flesh flowing like water in the creation of further horrors beyond the comprehension of man.
"There must be something we can do, by Sigmar's privy!" he mutters to Elsie and Faldit as he readies his weapons.
"We won't last long if these things keep coming!"
Now more angry than afraid, Karl prepared to charge the newly formed daemon not occupied by Hugo... perhaps if he could get past it to near that statue......

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Initiative:
Faldit: 54 Giggler 2 (by Hugo): 40 Karl: 40 Giggler 1 (by Statue): 39 Hugo: 38 Elsie: 34
Faldit raises his crossbow, glad he had the foresight to reload in the lull of battle. He fires from the hip and is rewarded when another of his bolts slams home into the nearest Giggler's head. The creature shrieks and offers him an extremely crude hand gesture whle using the other to pull the bolt out of its head with an accompanying squirt of ichor. It charges towards him, claws snicking. It swings wildly with its huge hand, trying perhaps to swipe the annoying little halfling's head clean off but it is distracted by Karl slamming into it shield first. The messenger pokes his sabre at it but his aim falls short and not for the first time does he wish he had a bigger blade.
On the other side of the room the Giggler formed from its 'father's' leg advances on Hugo, lashing out two-fistedly. This one too misses and Hugo manages to pink it in the hand with his hatchet. Several taloned fingers drop to the floor and the creature hops around comically, sucking on the stumps and grinning at him. Elsie calmly raises her bow to her eye level, sights along it and fires into the melee nearest to her - Faldit and Karl's struggle with the Giggler. She misses and the bolt slams into the little halfling, penetrating through his shoulder armour to graze the meat beneath.(W2).
The screaming goodwife finally leaps to her feet and runs up the stairs. She shrieks again upon gaining the crest. Perhaps she has found another corpse. Back to top Mr. President Professional

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Swearing as the strange daemon-thing leapt back from the swish of his blade, Karl barely noticed Faldit's cry of pain, nor registered Elsie's battlecry as she charged in. Only when he caught sight of the that distinctive shoc of red hair did he again register her addition to the brutal reality that is the swirl of melee combat.
Ducking his head and trying to get close in order to strike at the foul monstrosity, Karl turned his head towards the woman and diminuitive halfling.
"We can't do this forever... smash the foul icons, disrupt the circle.... anything that might alter the flow of evil to this place..."
Without pausing however he quickly turns back to the daemon, keeping his shield cautiously in front of him and readying a precise stroke to the things vitals... if it possessed any that is.
OOC: aim action [half] + standard attack [half] using a fortune point if I miss for the reroll. If this round doesn't change things in our favour a lot combat wise, it'll be time to get creative!

Faldit: 54 Giggler 2 (by Hugo): 40 Karl: 40 Giggler 1 (by Statue): 39 Hugo: 38 Elsie: 34
Nursing his wounded shoulder Faldit scrabbles away, half way up the stairs, his only means of retreat. The giggler's eyes narrow and it tries to move towards the little one, its metal claws clashing but it is prevented by the humans waving swords at it, lest it wants to get one in the gut. From behind his little wall of wood and steel Karl bides his time. As soon as the monstrous giggler lunges towards the halfling he strikes out, a straight sword thrust which takes the creature between the ribs, the sword sliding in with a horrible wet sound. The demon's knees buckle and it drops to them, breathing heavily. Elsie's abrupt charge in the confines of the cellar does her no good as her ill-timed blow swings over the collapsing demon's head.
Seeing its brother fall, the demonkin fighting Hugo redoubles its efforts, swinging its meaty fists at him in crushing blows. But they go wide of the mark, leaving the in-over-his-head charcoal burner sighing in relief. In return he swings a blow at the creature but he too misses. Back to top Mr. President Professional

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Initiative:
Faldit: 54 Giggler 2 (by Hugo): 40 Karl: 40 Giggler 1 (by Statue): 39 Hugo: 38 Elsie: 34
Faldit yanks a bolt from his quiver and begins feeding it into his crossbow, his nimble fingers work quickly but not quickly enough to get a shot off, just yet.
The deamon creature nearest to Hugo slashes its huge hand at him, a bestial roar replacing its usual hysterical giggling fit. Its silver bells tingle as its long limb swipes through the air at the struggling human. It's metallic claw rasps inches before his face and would surely have taken his eyes if Hugo hadn't managed to bring his hatchet up in time. Sparks fly from the clashing metal and the thing bellows once more. Hugo returns the swing but his hatchet again goes wide and the thing grins.
Meanwhile Karl slashes his sword at his opponent, ducking out from behind his shield to strike at the creature while it kneels dumbly, holding its side. His aim is true and his sabre connects with its thin neck, striking it head from its body. The head hits the stairs and rolls down, coming to a rest next to its still falling torso. The severed parts begin to burn purple.
Paying no heed to her opponent's demise Elsie charges across the room, her sword swinging in a graceful arc towards the statue... the statue which as she looks on... changes.
First it is a human with laughing features, the jaw wiggles as it giggles at her, although it seems to be made of cold, unmoving marble. Coulored with marble swirls... the statue swirls, the colours run together like an oil painting bubbling in fire.
Its form shifts, its neck grows long... no. It has a serpents face! Where did its shoulders go? It is a serpent! The worldeater that will come in the last days! Orubouros! Beaked servant of the changer!... How does she know this?
Elsie screams (and passes WP check by 2 points) bringing her sword down across the things face, which mercifully is a face once more. With a crack a large chip flies out of the things head and the face slides off. It hits the floor. The statue craizes and the body follows suit, bits breaking off and falling at Elsie's feet as she stands numb and weeping before it. Back to top Colonel Blood Making PCs Cry Since 1989

It doesn't seem to be finding this turn of events quite so humorous. It launches itself at the startled charcoal burner.
Ice cold claws rake Hugo's belly as his too slow and too weak parry fails to get between their bodies (9W). His surprise at the jet of hot blood leaping from his body makes his counter weak and easily batted aside by the deamon, which finds humour enough for one last giggle... Elsie's screams and the cries of rage and pain emanating from the other side of the chamber brought him to his senses, just as the sound of smashing plaster reverberated through his soul. Staring down the remaining foulness of the chamber, Karl launched himself recklessly at it, a cry on his lips that he had seldom uttered with such conviction.

He grabs Hugo by the shirt and using all his less-than-considerable-strength tries to drag him away from his attacker.
Hugo half stumbles and half runs out of the way of the advancing beast who raises both its huge hands, claws pointing straight down, it's serpentine tongue lolling from its thin lips. It hisses as it brings its blades down.
Karl barges past Elsie, who for some reason is stood on the middle of the room weeping like a dolt. Shield held out before him he leads with his sabre which plunges into the things exposed chest between its drooping breasts. The sabre buries itself up to its hilt in the daemon's flesh, an unnatural geyser of dark blood exploding from its back. It drops to its knees taking Karl's sword with it.
Meanwhile the severed head and pathetic body of the last giggler, laying at the foot of the stairs and therefore blocking the exit are reforming into two more of the creatures. Hugo and Faldit's run falters as they see the two new enemies form before their eyes.
Karl's latest victim begins to fizz and pop as it too follows its fellows into the fire of rebirth. But this time it has his sword stuck in it.

Swearing mightily under his breath, prayers to gods he had seldom invoked coming quickly to mind, Karl tried not to be mesmirized by the process of daemonic rebirth that would leave him unarmed. Trying his best not to flinch, he made a quick grab for the sabre still protruding from the remains of the quickly reforming daemons torso, before backing away from the creature, regardless of success or failure.
"Wonderful...." he says to himself.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The two gigglers forming before the halfling and his injured comrade reach out to claw at them. Their tiny bells still growing, they make a discordant racket as the tiny clappers hammer against them, changing weight and shape constantly.
Karl reaches out to make a grab at his sabre but the purple fire that is consuming the weapon conspires to stop him. Small bits of warp stuff leap off it and sizzle on his glove. He backs away before he is consumed by the flame, an arm is already forming from the pyre.
Elsie still stands as if rapt, staring at the ceiling although Sigmar alone knows what she sees there. Perhaps her death. Time seems to stand still as each person contemplates the end of their short lives. Surely no one will leave here alive.
The gigglers claws reach out to eviscerate Faldit, until now the only one of the party uninjured. The blades touch his flesh and he closes his eyes hoping for a quick death.
There is no pain. He looks down. The giggler's blades and fingers are gone and as it forces the stumps of its wrists foward they grind against his chainmail shirt, cracking and turning to powder, falling to the floor. A little pile of pink dust with silver bells in it.
Its twin is corroding as well. Hugo gives it a half-hearted kick to send it on its way before groaning with the pain of the effort. It collapes in a shower of dust which sends him hacking.
Karl's adversary too is dissipating. Perhaps it has not the energy to form. In seconds the pink flame is gone, leaving only a melted sabre on the floor.

Unwilling to believe that the horrors were dissipating, and begining to question whether they had been real to begin with; Karl advanced on his sabre, wary of any more daemon magiks that may yet pervade this place. She bends down picks up some of the broken rocks from the serpent and begins to throw them at where the statue lay. "Why, did you do this to me! Why!" She screams and feebly throws another rock.
She calms down a little once she has expelled the rage, shivers and shakes a little from the cold and lost blood. She starts to think back to when she felt this way before, when they touched and hurt her. Another tear rolls down her cheek. Pull your self together, you've been through far worse than this, this doesn't compare. So stop this weak feminine behaviour. You've survived and you'll learn from it now go! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Faldit bandages Hugo's wounds using strips from the clothing of some of the sacrifice victims. As he cuts them he makes a head count, coming up with three rich looking humans, burghers or merchants probably, a coachman and a female halfling wearing cook's clothes. They all appear to have been murdeedr quite deliberately with single stab wounds to the neck.
A fat man wearing an apron, probably the landlord, and another coachman have been gutted and several of their organs have been removed, probably while they were alive judging by the expressions. Their hands are tied. Perhaps they were alive until quite recently?
Feeling queezy and not a little upset, especially at the young halfling woman's demise he sets to work on Hugo, stitching and binding his stomach. (Hugo gains 5 wounds).
Having finished his work his eyes alight on a large strongbox set into an alcove in the subcellar behind the cursed statue.

Licking his lips, the pleasure at the thought of drink just barely overcoming the ringing in his head, Karl walks shakily up to the cellar to search the cellar for a choice bottle. Ignoring the sight of the gruesome sacrifices, the removed organs, the ghastly icons, Karl acts as if he just wishes to forget that anything untoward had happened here.
"Any sign of the crazed bitch?" he says casually to Elsie, remembering the cracked woman he'd foolishly tried to save. Back to top Colonel Blood Making PCs Cry Since 1989

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Elsie looks at him with red-rimmed eyes from over the top of the bottle she's guzzling from but before she replies Karl hear's sobbing come from the tap room above. Looks like the crazed bitch hasn't made it too far. Back to top Mr. President Professional

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hugo looked down at his bandaged side and sighed. This was not what he expected when he decided to leave the forest. What was worse was the fact that he had not really left the forest yet. 'Thank you, Faldit.' Back to top FireOfRetribution Warhammer Affectionado

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sighing inwardly Karl turned away from Elsie, what could you expect from women anyways? They had all been mentally tested in that den of horrors, but she was the only one emptying her eyes about it. Even the thrice blasted woodsman, who had suffered a wound the likes of which a templar would be proud of, wasn't bawling like a brat seeking its mother's skirts!
Karl, returning to his current raison d'etre wandered through the cellar, admiring the supply of 'refreshment' as it were.... before selecting for himself a bottle of whiskey... the good stuff, none of this home distilled garbage! Popping the top, he inhaled the warm aroma of the brew while slowly making his way towards the stairs to the taproom. Emerging into its relative brightness of the taproom, Karl turned to the bawling woman as he downed a large measure of the fiery liquid. Taking a chair from one the tables he pulled it up near her and contemplated her level of sanity.
I wonder if there anything left in there that hasn't cracked? Back to top Malochite Professional

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Cheers," She raises her bottle of wine that she found toward the messenger. "So, you seen out like that before?" I ain't, I can’t seem to get these images out of my cursed mind. I reckon this'll help." She takes another slug, she smiles for the first time in what feels like days but is in fact only hours. Tell me again what your doing here, I cant remember. I think those horrors sapped my memory too..." She slurs her speech towards the end. Her eyes feel heavy, her body numb. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In the sub cellar Faldit approaches the wooden box. It's covered in dust and clearly hasn't been opened in a long time. Perhaps this whole secret cellar has been hidden away for years?
Although not a sneaky person by nature Faldit has recently discovered a gift for springing locks. He looks around the box checking for traps and when he doesn't find any begins to wiggle a thick piece of wire from his belt into the padlock.
Hugo pads over holding his side in time to see the padlock drop off and help Faldit heave the lid off.
It's full of coin. A lot of coin.

In the tap room the wailing woman has calmed to a sob. She has retreated to the kitchen and is sat on a halfling-sized stool gazing at the wall and wringing a hankie.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Faldit looks quickly through the gold and within a minute, he murmurs to Hugo, "There's over 200 Gold coins, about 360 Silver shillings and...erm 26 Copper pennies. None older than a century old. Deiter IV, at the oldest..." He begins to turn back for the others but stops himself and addresses Hugo once more, "What say we, uh, bring that number down a bit before sharing it with the others, eh?" He winks at the man, "Fifteen's as good as twenty-five as far as they know, hm? Besides, that red-haired terror's been dragging me about by the neck for days and you certainly deserve some hazard pay." Back to top Kanor Professional

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 'Taal's Teeth. I've never seen so much gold in all my life.' Hugo looks almost dumbstruck at the vast amount of gold before him. When Faldit suggests that they take some first before sharing it out, Hugo's first insticnt is to smack the halfling for the theif he obviously is. However as he thought about it Faldit was right, there was so much money there that them taking some of it first wouldn't make much of a difference. And Faldit had a good point about hazard pay, looking down again at his bandaged chest he wonders whether it would be wise to potentially set himself against the others.
In the end the practical side of his nature won out, and he looked at Faldit in the eye. And grinned. 'How much are you thinking of?'
